Select the best suitable shipping option

This article lets you compare the different shipping options and select the one that best fits your business. You can use all the shipping options offered. See how to create shipping rates.

The different types of shipping rates that you can create are:

In this article:

  1. Flat Rate Shipping.
  2. Shipping based on Order Weight.
  3. Shipping based on Order Total.
  4. Shipping based on Number of Items.
  5. Store Pickup shipping.

Flat Rate Shipping

The flat rate shipping applies to any order irrespective of the number of items in the order. Using this, you can specify the per order shipping rate.

Here, you can specify the per-item fee (that applies to the items present in the order) wherein the item’s weight does not matter.

Most suitable for:

  1. Outlets that sell items of similar weight.
  2. Valuable items whose cost is very high and shipping cost is very low when compared to the item cost.

Note:

  • This is the simplest shipping option that can be easily understood by the customer.
  • This shipping option is not optimal when you sell items of different weights.

Shipping based on Order Weight

Using the shipping based on order weight, you can create different shipping rates based on the total order weight.

You can add the weight ranges and respective shipping rates. You can also set the shipping rate for the final weight range that would account for all the orders above the highest weight specified to ∞ (all the heavy orders would come under this range).

Before you create these weight ranges, you need to specify the weight of your products.

Most suitable for:

  • Stores that sell products of varied weights.

Note: Using this shipping option, you can specify different shipping rates based on total order weight.

Shipping based on Order Total

Using the shipping based on order total, you can create different shipping rates based on the order total.

You can add the order total (value) ranges and respective shipping rates. You can also set the shipping rate for the final order total range that would account for all the orders above the highest order value specified to ∞.

Most suitable for:

  • Stores that sell sophisticated and expensive products.

Note: Using this shipping option, you can specify different shipping rates based on the order total value.

Shipping based on Number of Items

Using the shipping based on number of items, you can create different shipping rates based on the number of items in the order.

You can add the number of items ranges and respective shipping rates. You can also set the shipping rate for the final number of items range that would account for all the orders above the highest number of items specified to ∞.

Most suitable for:

  • Stores that sell products of similar weight.

Note: Using this shipping option, you can specify different shipping rates based on the number of items present in the order.

Store Pickup shipping

Using this shipping option, you can specify the shipping rate in case of store pickup.

You can offer the store pickup option wherein the customers (who are willing) can pick up their order item(s) from your store thereby saving the shipping cost.

Most suitable for:

  • Stores that are not connected to any shipping service.
  • Local stores that sell items to nearby locations.
